Trees contacting overhead power lines are a leading cause of outages and momentary interruptions and can be a safety concern. That is why WH also has a seasonal tree trimming maintenance program along WH’s power line routes.
You can schedule a WH crew to disconnect your power line during regular business hours.
Members who have property along power line routes are occasionally asked to allow WH to trim their trees if it is necessary to reduce reliability concerns related to overhead power lines. WH also conducts an annual inspection of overhead power lines to determine if there are areas where trimming is needed.

Note: WH is responsible to get the electricity to your meter. However, the mast on the house (the pipe in which the wires run down to the meter) panel is your responsibility. For example, if a tree damages the mast, an electrician will need to make repairs at your home. You can call your own electrician or our WH Response division can assist with coordinating repairs at 763-477-3000 or 800-943-2667.
Because of the need to balance electric reliability and safety with aesthetics,
WH offers options when the cooperative needs to trim trees on a member's property. They include the following:
*Service provided at owner’s expense—one tree trim credit may apply
WH contractors clean up brush from their regular maintenance trimming jobs. Property owners or homeowners are responsible for dead or diseased trees or brush/wood or clean up any debris resulting from a storm or emergency trimming.
WH recommends a clearance of a minimum of 15 feet on all sides of the center conductor or pole-line.
