Commercial Off-Peak Programs

Reduce your electric bill by participating in Wright-Hennepin's commercial Off-Peak programs. Register for one of these programs by contacting a commercial account representative by calling 763-477-3000.

Quick Cash (not metered) Air Conditioning Program

Under this program, Wright-Hennepin will cycle your air conditioner(s), from a remote control unit, on a 15 minute “ON”, 15 minute “OFF” basis. To accomplish the required control, Wright-Hennepin installs a control unit on each air conditioning unit. You will receive a monthly billing credit for the months of June, July and August, based on the amount of cooling tonnage brought under interruptible control. There is no cost to participate on the program. Customer participation is subject to approval by Wright-Hennepin.

Dual Fuel Heating Program

Dual Fuel heating is an option for commercial customers that heat and cool spaces like offices. Dual Fuel will not work for large warehouses. The concept behind Dual Fuel is that an automatically controlled non-electric secondary source of heating is used for space heating, when the primary electric heating system is interrupted. The secondary (back-up) heating system must be capable of heating the entire conditioned space. Dual Fuel control can be for up to twelve (12) hours per day. The customer receives a discounted electric rate for all electric space heating usage as measured by the Off-Peak meter. Customer participation is subject to approval by Wright-Hennepin.

Metered Air Conditioning Program

Under this program, Wright-Hennepin will cycle your air conditioner(s) on a 15 minute “ON”, 15 minute “OFF” basis. To accomplish the required control, Wright-Hennepin installs a control unit on each air conditioning unit. A separate off-peak meter (supplied by Wright-Hennepin) is required, which measures the actual amount of energy being consumed by the air conditioning load. For participating, the customer receives a discounted electric rate for all air conditioning usage as measured by the Off-Peak meter. Customer participation is subject to approval by Wright-Hennepin. The Off-Peak meter requires wiring and installation and the cost of these two activities is the responsibility of the customer.

Ground Source Heat Pump Program

For customers investing in this energy-efficient technology, WH offers an “energy-only” (no demand charge) non-controlled electric rate. To qualify, the GSHP system must be metered separately from all of the building’s other electric loads. Customer participation is subject to approval by WH.

Water Heating Program

Under this program, a water heating system with sufficient water storage will have to be installed by the customer. This storage water heater will have to hold hot water over an extended “On-peak” period while the electrical supply is interrupted. Water heaters are typically interrupted for sixteen (16) hours a day, and the hours are usually from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Recharge is generally limited to eight hours per day. The customer receives a discounted electric rate, for all water heating use as measured by an Off-Peak meter. Customer participation is subject to approval by Wright-Hennepin.
