Wright-Hennepin conducted an experiment to find out exactly what old appliances are costing you. We hooked up a 2011 Energy Star refrigerator to an older Frigidaire model - which was built in the 1970's - to meters that tracked the units’ usage over 3.5 months. (9/27/11-1/16/11). Here is what we found:

If you own a second fridge (like this brown one) and don't use it on a daily basis, consider recycling it. You could save about $80 per year in energy costs.
