Save Money with an Off-Peak Program

Reduce your energy costs with Off-Peak programs.

With an Off-Peak program, you can save almost 50 percent on the cost to cool or heat your home and water. Check out all the Off-Peak programs Wright-Hennepin has to offer:

Off-Peak Heating program

Save money on your home’s heating bills with Wright-Hennepin's Dual Fuel Off-Peak heating program. The Dual Fuel program is for members that use electricity to heat their homes, while still having a non-electric backup heating source. Participants of this program receive a special reduced electric rate of 4.9 cents per kWh for their heating system, versus the general service rate of 8.1 cents per kWh.

In return for that special rate, members’ electric heating systems are shut -off and backup heating systems are used during times of peak energy demand.

Off-Peak Air Conditioning programs

Save money and energy during the summer months with one of Wright-Hennepin's Off-Peak air conditioning programs: Cool Cash or Classic Off-Peak Air Conditioning.

Members of the Cool Cash program receive 15 percent off their electric bills for the months of June, July and August in return for allowing Wright-Hennepin to cycle their air conditioners "on" and "off" at 15-minute intervals during the hottest times of the summer.

Members of the Classic Off-Peak Air Conditioning program receive a special reduced electric rate of 4.9 cents per kWh for allowing Wright-Hennepin to cycle air conditioners or air source heat pumps "on" and "off" at 15-minute intervals during the hottest times of the summer.

Off-Peak Water Heating programs

There are two programs that can lower your monthly water heating bills: the Classic Off-Peak Water Heating program or the Peak Shave Water Heating Program.

The Classic Off-Peak Water Heating program can save you up to 46 percent on the cost of electrically heating your water. This program gives you a special reduced electric rate for your water heating of 4.9 cents per kWh, instead of the general service rate of 8.1 cents per kWh. In return for this lower electric rate, your water heater will only heat water at night (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and store hot water during the day.

The Peak Shave Water Heating program gives you a $10 credit on your electric bill each month (certain restrictions may apply). In order to receive the $10 credit, Wright-Hennepin will control your water heating during high power demand times, which typically occur on the hottest and coldest days of the year. Hours of power load management average six hours and are usually between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on high use days.

Off-Peak Heat Pump programs

Ground Source Heat Pump programs

Along with being one of the most efficient systems available to meet homeowners' heating and cooling needs, Wright-Hennepin offers additional discounts for ground source heat pumps through two Off-Peak programs: uncontrolled and controlled.

The uncontrolled program allows members to receive a discounted rate of 6 cents/kWh if the system is capable of providing the entire space heating and cooling requirement of the home. Any additional electric heat sources must be separately metered and controlled on a Dual Fuel rate strategy, and any electric water heating must be placed on an Off-Peak program.

The controlled program provides a lower rate of 4.9 cents/kWh. Through this program, members allow WH to provide load management control for up to 400 hours per heating season. Summer control for this plan is up to 200 hours per cooling season. An adequate automatic backup heating source is also required to qualify for this rate.

Air Source Heat Pump program

Air source heat pumps are another energy-efficient way to heat and cool your home. Members who utilize WH's air source heat pump Off-Peak program receive additional savings with a discounted rate of 4.9 cents/kWh by allowing their heat pump to be controlled for up to 400 hours per heating season and 200 hours per cooling system.

An adequate automatic backup heating source is also required to qualify for this rate.
