The wild and wonderful world of programmable thermostats

One easy way to save money on your energy bill is to install a programmable thermostat.

Programmable thermostats have had a long history in the heating business. Today, we have thermostats that will keep track of when you come and go and can decide for you when it is best to warm up the house and to cool it back down. If your programmable thermostat has wifi (wireless internet connectivity), you can pull out your smart phone and see what is happening at home – or drive your family crazy running the temperature up and down from afar.

Seriously, we can do and accomplish much with today’s programmable thermostat features. Energy saving can be accomplished in both the heating season and the cooling seasons.

These thermostats can be programmed to watch how much the heating and cooling equipment is operating to alert you when it is time to change your air filter, humidifier water panel/pad. They can watch your humidity levels and in turn operate your humidifier, dehumidifier and your heat recovery ventilator.

It pays to spend more on a professional-grade thermostat as it will last longer and have extra options. Also, have a professional install and program the thermostat so it works as designed with the wifi and all of its features. Once your thermostat is installed, you may be surprised at your energy savings, which also means a lower energy bill.
