Did You Know?

Wright County, Minnesota was named for Silas Wright, NY congressman and governor. Hennepin County was name after Louis Hennepin, a missionary.

At Wright-Hennepin, we are very dedicated to the local communities and local environment. That is why we have implemented many programs and initiatives to benefit local residents.

Tree Distribution Program
When a storm devastated the trees in our service area in 1997, we helped local communities recover losses by donating more than 10,000 tree seedlings throughout the local area. The tree distribution program was so well received that the cooperative has since donated over 100,000 seedlings to students in local elementary schools, to local civic groups, and boy and girl scout troops.

Lake Maria Clean Up
Since 2000, Wright-Hennepin has also been active in clean up and planting efforts at a state park in Monticello called Lake Maria. This is part of a statewide GreenTouch program coordinated by Minnesota's more than 30 cooperatives.

Planting Projects
In the last few years, employees and members have also assisted in boulevard and shrub planting projects in Maple Grove and Plymouth, as well as various lake association shoreline restoration projects.

Osprey Banding
In the Annandale area, we work with the Three Rivers Park Department to band osprey each summer. We have been helping project volunteers reach the osprey chick nests by climbing the tall poles on which they nest.

Wellspring
For members interested in doing more to help the local environment, Wright-Hennepin offers a green power program called Wellspring.
