As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to grow in popularity, Wright-Hennepin (WH) is working hard to ensure that members are able to affordably charge their vehicles from the comfort of their own home.

WH’s Overnight Storage Charge and Time-of-Use Charging Programs allow members with an EV the opportunity to save money on their monthly electric bill while charging their vehicle during certain hours. These Energy-Saving Programs (ESPs) even help keep costs down for all members by encouraging EV charging at off-peak hours, when energy costs are lowest.

With the recent addition of the new Subscription Charging Program, members can now charge their EV for a flat rate of $35 per month from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The cost is $35 per vehicle; if a household owns two EVs, the cost would be $70. While the flat rate is for charging between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., charging is available 24/7, at slightly different rates:

  • 5:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. @ $0.12428 per kWh
  • 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. @ $0.29320 per kWh

Energy rate is not subject to Power Cost Adjustment (PCA). The EV on the program must be all-electric and have a minimum of 4.5kW charger rating to qualify. The program also requires the use of a hardwired, 240-volt, wall-mounted Level 2 charging station. Depending on your charging station, joining an ESP may require a separate meter socket to be installed on the outside of home.

ESPs and rebates are also available for several household appliances, including water heaters, air conditioners, and ground source heat pumps.

Looking for additional ways to monitor and reduce your energy use? Most WH members are also able to sign up for MyMeter, a free program that allows you to track and chart your daily energy use, set goals for yourself to reduce your energy use, and receive alerts when your energy use exceeds a pre-set level.
