This holiday brought to you by electricity

Decorating with lights, listening to festive music and snuggling up by the fire to watch a favorite movie are a few things that make the holiday season great. Behind the scenes, electricity works hard to power your holidays, and this season is no different.

A house full of lights helps light up the holidays. On average, ENERGY STAR LED bulbs use approximately 75% less energy than conventional incandescent lights. They also are more durable, lasting up to ten times longer than their incandescent counter parts, and they are safer, too, decreasing the risk of fires thanks to staying cool to the touch while lit. By using ENERGY STAR LED bulbs, you can save energy, save money and enjoy beautiful lights on your tree.

Another favorite tradition this time of year is snuggling up to watch all those holiday movies. Electricity helps power your TVs, so you can watch “Elf” or “A Christmas Carol” without any worries! With settings like “cinema view” and automatic brightness control on many TVs today, you can rest assured knowing your movie nights are fun and energy efficient. While you get cozy on your couch, electric heaters and space heaters help make your home that much cozier but be sure to throw on a blanket for a little extra warmth on those cold winter nights!

Baking cookies this year? Ovens are a great way to make delicious treats to munch on all season long. Save energy by keeping the oven closed while you’re baking to keep the heat in! Opening the oven door can lower the temperature and will extend the amount of time you need to have it on to make your food.

The holiday season is full of traditions and cheer. Electricity helps power your holidays and allows all your traditions to come to life, from lighting your tree to heating your home to cooking your Christmas dinner. The next time you enjoy these holiday traditions, you can thank the power of electricity!
