Interested in powering your home with renewable energy? Wright-Hennepin (WH) has two programs for members. Through WH’s Solar and Renewable Choice programs, WH members can choose where their power is coming from.

Solar Choice

With WH’s Solar Choice program, members can enjoy the benefits of solar energy having solar panels installed on their property. Installing solar panels on your property is not always an option, whether the up-cost front is too high or if your home does not have good solar potential. WH’s Solar Choice program is a great way for members to benefit from solar economics for a portion of their energy consumption without having to install solar at their residence. WH does all the heavy lifting while members will utilize renewable resources within WH’s existing power portfolio. The solar power comes from WH’s Dickinson Solar Project, which is part of WH’s wholesale supply, located south of Buffalo.

Any home receiving power in WH’s territory is eligible for this program. Members can purchase energy “blocks” at a price of 16 cents per kWh, up to five blocks. Each block purchased equates to 110 kWh per month. Learn more about or sign up for WH’s Solar Choice program.

Renewable Choice

Through WH’s Renewable Choice program, WH will secure and allocate renewable attributes to match up to 100% of their energy consumption. For $1 per month, members can opt in to add renewable attributes to their electric energy purchases. WH will track and retire Renewable Energy Credits of 12,000 kWh per year (1,000 kWh per month) on members’ behalf. An average member uses 1,000 kWh per month.

Any home receiving power in WH’s territory is eligible for this program. The energy is generated by renewable resources such as wind turbines and solar arrays located in the region. Learn more about WH’s Renewable Choice program.

WH knows that renewable power is important to many members, and we are happy to offer the option to power your home the way you want. In the past, WH built a community solar project at our headquarters for members to opt in to receive solar energy, and in the future, WH will continue to offer a diverse energy portfolio for its member-owners. No matter how you power your home, WH’s goal is to continue to make that power affordable and reliable for you, the member-owner of the co-op.
