It is estimated that multiple electric vehicles (EV) will be similarly priced as their gas-powered counterparts by 2020. In fact, a potential 34 new EVs are predicted to hit the market by 2019. Comparing the EV landscape just five years ago with today’s, it’s clear electric transportation is on the rise.

Big automakers have taken notice and are also jumping on board, and prices are starting Wright-Hennepin's Nissan Leaf in front of its charger located in Rockford, MN. to come down. Ford plans to release an affordable compact all-electric SUV by 2020 that can travel at least 300 miles per charge. Chevy introduced the total electric Bolt this year that has a 238-mile range and starts at $37,500. The Tesla Model 3 was recently unveiled and is expected to boast a 250-mile range while starting at $35,000.

The charging infrastructure for EVs is also gaining steam. Already, there are more than 44,000 public charging stations in the U.S. and that number will look to grow as more EVs are rolled out. Tesla is also planning to install a total of 10,000 of their supercharging stations before the end of 2017. Wright-Hennepin even has its own public chargers available to EV drivers. We have a DC Fast Charger located at our Rockford headquarters, and another at the Albertville Premium Outlets. We also have two Level 2 chargers at the Albertville Premium Outlets.

The development of all this new technology is great news for those considering purchasing an EV. Especially if you’re a Wright-Hennepin (WH) member, because you can take advantage of our in-home charging station programs. Whether you want to charge your EV overnight or have the freedom to plug in whenever you like, WH has options

WH also has two rebates that can help you save up to $700 on a new EV charger! Call us at (763) 477-3000 or email us to learn more about our programs and rebates.
