Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more common across workplaces, fleets, and customer-facing locations. Wright-Hennepin supports commercial members interested in installing EV charging stations by offering guidance, rebate incentives, and technical review to help ensure safe, reliable installations.

Adding EV charging can provide value to your business by supporting employees, attracting customers or tenants, and demonstrating your commitment to sustainable transportation.

EV Charging for Commercial Applications

Installing a Level 2 EV charging station can be a practical and scalable solution for many commercial properties. Level 2 chargers typically provide 10–20 miles of driving range per hour of charging and require 240-volt service, which is common in commercial facilities.

Commercial EV Charging Stations Can:

  • Provide a low-cost employee benefit

  • Increase convenience for customers or tenants

  • Support fleet or business vehicle charging needs

  • Reinforce sustainability and clean-energy goals

Installation costs vary based on the number of charging ports, electrical capacity, and proximity to existing infrastructure.

Commercial EV Charging Rebates

Wright-Hennepin offers rebate incentives of up to $500 per charging port, for up to six charging ports, for qualifying commercial EV charging installations.

Because rebate funding is limited, project pre-approval by a WH Business Account Representative is strongly recommended. Projects that do not receive pre-approval are not guaranteed incentive funding.

Commercial and industrial EV charging installations are subject to Wright-Hennepin approval.

Planning Your EV Charging Project

When planning a commercial EV charging installation, several factors should be considered, including:

  • Electrical service capacity and panel availability

  • Number of charging ports needed

  • Charger location and accessibility

  • Future expansion or scalability

  • Compliance with WH safety and interconnection requirements

WH Business Account Representatives are available to answer questions and help you evaluate your project before installation begins.
