About Wright-Hennepin

Who We Are

Welcome to Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH)! We’re your local electric cooperative, and we’ve been proudly powering homes and businesses across Wright and Hennepin counties since 1937. We were founded on a simple, yet powerful idea: to bring safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to our communities when no one else would.

What makes us different? As a cooperative, we’re member-owned. That means everyone who receives electricity from us is a part-owner of WH. Here, you’re a member, not a customer. Unlike many other utilities, we’re not-for-profit, and our focus is always on serving you and strengthening the communities we call home.

Our cooperative is guided by a member-elected Board of Directors and governed by our bylaws, which outline how decisions are made, how leadership is structured, and how members’ voices are represented. Together, this framework ensures transparency, accountability, and local control; keeping WH rooted in the needs of the people we serve, today and into the future.

Power Supply Mix

Ever wonder where your electricity comes from?

At Wright-Hennepin, we don't generate power ourselves. Instead, we partner with trusted, large-scale wholesale energy providers like Great River Energy, Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Basin Electric Power Cooperative. These partnerships allow us to pool resources with other cooperatives, securing a diverse and reliable mix of energy sources for our members.

Our power suppliers are continuously working to balance affordability with environmental responsibility, investing in a variety of generation methods to meet demand. You'll find detailed breakdowns of their energy portfolios, showcasing the mix of coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar, on their respective websites. We're also seeing the positive impacts of initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which is helping accelerate investments in cleaner energy technologies and infrastructure across the nation.
