Metered Water Heating Program
The Metered Water Heating Program is a simple way to pay a lower energy rate for heating water during off-peak hours. This program is ideal for households with high water usage that want to manage energy costs efficiently while enjoying automatic overnight scheduling.
Benefits & Rebates
- Low energy rate of $0.06434 per kWh for water heating
- Up to $500 in rebates for new installations
- Efficient, automatic scheduling
How Does It Work?
Water heaters operate during off-peak hours only, charging for 8 hours overnight when energy demand is at a minimum. A mixing valve blends cold and hot water to deliver the desired temperature at your faucet while maximizing the tank's capacity. Your water heater charges between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (October–April) or 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. (May–September), with no control on weekends or holidays unless peak conditions occur.
Requirements
- 100-gallon electric water heater with mixing valve
- No recirculation systems allowed
- Outdoor installation of ESP receiver and meter
- Cold water lines required for any humidifiers
