Peak Shave Water Heating Program
Save money while helping reduce energy use during peak energy demands with the Peak Shave Water Heating Program. If you already have an electric water heater or are planning to install one, you could save up to $60 per year with this easy Energy-Saving Program that offers monthly bill credits and a one-time rebate.
Benefits & Rebates
- $5 monthly bill credit (requires 300 kWh minimum general service usage)
- $200 one-time rebate for new enrollments
- Control during high-demand periods only (typically 3 p.m.–10 p.m.)
How Does It Work?
During peak energy demand periods, Wright-Hennepin may temporarily pause your water heater to reduce strain on the electric grid. This control lasts no more than 8 hours per day, and your tank will retain enough hot water to meet most household needs. Your water heater is metered at the general service rate with no special rate required.
Requirements
- Minimum 50-gallon electric tank water heater (with optional mixing valve)
- Minimum 300 kWh/month general service usage
- No hot water recirculation systems allowed
- Outdoor installation of ESP demand management receiver required
- Smart water heater or Wi-Fi-enabled water heaters do not qualify
- Cold water lines required for any humidifiers
How To Enroll
Contact Wright-Hennepin at (763) 477-3000 to discuss the program. After installing a compatible water heater and completing an electrical inspection, we'll install the ESP equipment to activate your program benefits.
