Have An Electric Water Heater? You Could Be Saving on Your Monthly Bill!
If you have an electric water heater, you could be saving money on your monthly electric bill!
There are two main kinds of water heaters: gas and electric. Both are available in tankless or traditional tank options, and have the same end result – hot water – but one heats with natural gas or propane, while the other relies on electric power.
The good news is it’s easy to tell them apart. One way to tell is the presence of a vent pipe. Gas water heaters have a venting system on top, while electric water heaters don’t. You can also look for a gas line, which electric water heaters will not have. Instead, electric water heaters are controlled by electrical wires.
Gas water heaters also tend to be louder than electric water heaters. If you can hear them heating, it’s probably gas powered. They will also have a pilot light, which serves as the ignition source for the gas.
If you have an electric water heater, Wright-Hennepin (WH) offers three water heating programs to fit a variety of lifestyles. Peak Shave Water Heating offers up to $60 a year as a bill credit, and you can join with an existing electric water heater! If you’re getting a new electric water heater, with a minimum size of 100 gallons, you can join our Metered Water Heating or Quick Cash Water Heating programs. Our Metered Water Heating Program offers a lower energy rate for heating water during off-peak hours, and Quick Cash Water Heating can offers up to $120 annually.
Need a new water heater? WH sells electric water heaters, too, and you could qualify for a rebate!
